Now, onto the recipe!
Soft Bread Buns Recipe
Ingredients
2 cups flour
1 tsp salt
1 tsp sugar
1 tbsp oil
1 tbsp dry yeast*
2/3 cup warm water
Optional toppings: sesame seeds, flax seeds, sunflower seeds, paprika powder, fresh herbs
*I used active yeast, so no activation was needed.
Instructions
Mix the Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast.
Add Wet Ingredients: Pour the oil and warm water into the dry ingredients, mixing until a dough forms.
Knead the Dough: Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 8-10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Let it Rise: Place the dough back into the bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
Shape the Buns: After the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 5 equal pieces. Shape each piece into a round bun and place them in a circle on a lined cake baking tray.
Add Toppings: Brush the top with olive oil and garnish some of the buns with paprika powder and a mix of sesame, flax, and sunflower seeds. For extra flavour, add fresh herbs like rosemary or thyme to some of the buns.
Final Rise: Cover the buns and let them rise for another 20-30 minutes.
Bake: Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F). Bake the buns for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown on top.
Cool and Enjoy: Let the buns cool slightly before serving.
These soft, flavourful buns are perfect for autumn meals and gatherings. The combination of seeds and herbs gives each bun a unique, delicious topping.
