Hello, dear friends,
The Holiday Season is a time for joy, togetherness, and creating warm, unforgettable memories. One of my favourite ways to embrace the festive spirit is by setting a beautiful table that feels both magical and welcoming. And, of course, in vintage style.
In my latest video, the main character lovingly sets the table for Christmas supper, and now I want to share some ideas and tips on how you can create your own enchanting holiday tablescape with a touch of history, natural charm, and eco-conscious elements.
Let’s explore how to combine vintage aesthetics, sustainable materials, and creative flair to bring old-fashioned Christmas magic to your home.
The recipes and table layout are featured in this video:

🌲 How to lay a Vintage Christmas Table 🌲
My Theme: A Scottish Christmas
For this year’s table, I was inspired by my love for Scotland and the timeless charm of its countryside, castles and tartans, beautifully captured in one of my favourite series, Outlander. The table features a plaid fabric as the base paired with vintage crockery, antique glasses, and natural décor elements. You can use these ideas as a starting point and adapt them to your preferred aesthetic.
Step 1: Choose a Base
The foundation of your table sets the tone for the entire look. Here are some ideas to match your style:
Rustic Look: Use a burlap or linen tablecloth for a cosy, cottagecore vibe. Add texture with woven placemats or wooden chargers.
Elegant Look: Opt for a lace or embroidered tablecloth for a refined, Victorian-inspired feel. Layer with fabric napkins for the perfect vintage touch.
Seasonal Patterns: Plaid or tartan fabrics (like the one I used) are perfect for adding warmth and a subtle nod to festive traditions. A scarf or table runner is a wonderful option too!
Step 2: Incorporate Natural Elements
One of the easiest and most sustainable ways to decorate your table is by using natural elements. For my table, I added pine branches and arranged a few in a brown vase. To complement the greenery, I tied red linen ribbons for a festive pop of colour.
To fill in the empty spaces, I added some in-shell walnuts.
Other ideas:
Scatter dried oranges or cinnamon sticks across the table for a rustic aroma.
Use small pinecones or sprigs of rosemary as place card holders.
Fill jars or vintage bowls with chestnuts, walnuts, or cranberries for a charming touch.
Step 3: Add a Vintage Touch
Choosing antique or vintage-style pieces creates a sense of timelessness. For my table, I used:
Vintage crockery in red and white patterns, reminiscent of Victorian Christmases.
Antique bottles to hold water or wine, adding character and charm.
Fabric napkins and ornate cutlery for an elegant finish.
Victorian Christmas Pomanders made from oranges and cloves—a tradition that fills the room with a delightful, festive scent.
Vintage brass candle holders to complete the look.
Other options:
Hunt for thrifted silverware or mismatched china for an eclectic vintage look.
Use amber glass bottles or brass candlesticks for warmth and nostalgia.
Step 4: Focus on Lighting
Candles are the heart of a vintage Christmas table. I placed brass candleholders with tall candles for a soft glow. You can also:
Use string lights intertwined with greenery for a magical effect.
Opt for soy wax candles for a natural, eco-friendly choice.
Step 5: Delightful Dishes to Complete the Table
To complement your beautifully set table, serve simple, heartwarming dishes that everyone can enjoy. In my video, I featured a selection of vegan recipes to keep the menu inclusive.
Here are a few ideas:
Festive Focaccia Bread: A stunning Christmas wreath design makes this bread a showstopper.
Potato Stacks, Carrots, and Roasted Veggies: Seasonal vegetables with simple seasoning bring comforting flavours to the table.
You can find the full recipes in the recipe section of my blog to recreate these dishes at home.
Bringing it All Together
Whether you’re hosting a large gathering or enjoying an intimate meal, creating a vintage Christmas table is about blending charm, warmth, and personal touches.
Here’s a quick recap of ways to elevate your tablescape:
Choose a theme and tablecloth that set the tone (plaid, lace, linen or burlap).
Decorate with natural and sustainable elements like pine branches, oranges, and soy wax candles.
Incorporate vintage or antique pieces for timeless charm.
Serve comforting, seasonal dishes that are both delicious and easy to prepare.
I hope these tips inspire you to create your own magical Christmas table. Don’t forget to share your creations—I’d love to see how you make the season special!
