In this post, I invite you to join Elowen on a special journey through her beloved cottage, as she shares her favourite autumn traditions and the deep memories tied to her childhood.
The Story of Elowen and Cinnamon Cottage
Elowen first discovered the magic of Cinnamon Cottage through her grandparents. The stories they told, the cosy autumn meals they prepared, and the quiet beauty of the forest outside shaped her love for this enchanting place. Every time she returns, she feels the presence of her ancestors and the wonder they nurtured within her. This season, Elowen invites you to experience life at Cinnamon Cottage through a special three-part series of videos, celebrating everything she loves about autumn—baking, crafting, and embracing the quiet magic of the season.

Elowen's letter to her friend Jenny
My Dear Jenny,
I am finally back at Cinnamon Cottage… and what a first day I had!
You asked me once why this place is so special to me. It’s a question I asked myself too. At first, I thought it was the silence, but then I realised it’s here that I hear the most—the rustle of leaves, the crackling of the fire, the soft patter of acorns dropping onto the roof, or the distant call of geese as they make their way south. Even the rain has its own melody here.
I’ve often thought that what makes the cottage so special are the memories it holds— the aroma of my grandfather's pumpkin soup and my grandmother’s soft humming as she baked apple pies in the keeping room. I remember how Grandpa and I would sit together making garlands from acorns and mushrooms, or how Grandma was always my ally when I mischievously hid wooden sticks in Grandpa’s silver hair whenever he dozed off in the rocking chair.
As a child, my grandparents told me countless tales and legends from the forest, stories filled with wonder and mystery. One of my favourites was about a cottage that emerged only when the leaves turned gold and the air became cool, resting hidden in another realm for the rest of the year. I asked them countless times if that cottage was Cinnamon Cottage, but my grandmother would always assure me it wasn’t. She said a caretaker named Linden watched over it when we were gone, yet every year we returned to find everything exactly as we left it. I’ve often wondered if Linden was more than just a mere mortal. Perhaps there was something more to this place than I had been told. But I suppose it was just my imagination. After all, Linden does take care of it, and always leaves a generous portion of his harvest on the table.
For many years, I also considered the possibility that Cinnamon Cottage existed in a perpetual state of autumn. No matter what time of year it was in the outside world, inside the cottage, it would always be autumn. As a lover of this season, the idea excited me, yet as the years passed, I began to wonder what it means to live in a world that never changes. Could I truly be happy without the cycles of the seasons? There must have been a reason why my grandmother made me promise to return only in autumn.
My grandparents had a way of feeding my imagination, of making me believe that magic could exist. Their tales blurred the lines between reality and fantasy. But what I’ve come to realise is that they believed in magic not as something from another realm, but as something we create ourselves. Whenever I asked them about the magic of Cinnamon Cottage, they would smile and remind me that magic isn’t just out there, waiting to be found; it’s something you have to believe in first, something you nurture within your heart.
And perhaps that’s why this place feels so special—because I’ve chosen to believe in its magic.
With love,
Elowen
